María Parra

15/11/2014 - Discográfica VERSO

María Parra Peñafiel, the performer on this disc, is an outstanding Spanish pianist, born in Soria and with a comprehensive, cosmopolitan musical training. Her ascending artistic career has been enlarged with significant activity in teaching, including master classes in Spanish music in Spain and in Germany. She is also noted as speaker, giving instructive papers in some of the most renowned international musical centres and, to a lesser degree, as composer.

Rêverie, her first recording project, is far more than a programme of pieces written for piano and with children as its focus. It is maturity taking form in excellent interpretations, full of expressivity, emotion and refined technical quality. These very carefully selected pieces help greatly to create on hearing a climate of refinement and dreams, particularly in Schumann’s Kinderszenen or the magnificent works chosen from Albéniz’s Iberia Suite, scores very familiar to music lovers who may here access what may be one of its finest expressions. The programme ends with a piece written by the performer: Il Pleut sur Paris, a melancholic, profound homage evoking the rain-soaked scene in the French capital which greeted María Parra on her arrival from Spain at Austerlitz station.
